First; a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to Rosie's Place. Today my partner in crime, Tara, is delivering a huge haul of goods to that incredible organization. Thank you to everyone who gave!

Second, it is almost Christmas and Hanukkah and boy do we have some delicious things for you. As always, we have Latkes and Kugel from Mamaleh's, bake at home cinnamon rolls from Forge, cheesy scalloped potatoes and pierogi for your snacking pleasure.

What was that? Do we have grass fed beef for all of your main dishes? You betcha. Porterhouses, Ribeyes , Filet Mignon, T-Bones and Tri-Tip Roasts galore from the good folks at Cold Spring Ranch.

Playing Favorites

The other day I heard a commercial from Wirecutter at the New York Times, they're the folks who do all kinds of product reviews and suggestions. They were listing off their top Holiday presents for the foodie in your life. Always in the mood for surprise food content, my ears perked up only to hear that their #1 pick was a ceramic butter warmer.

I scoffed at the idea. Who the hell needs that? I was feeling a little judgey, wellness and lifestyle influencer that I am. (For background: at the time of said commercial I was sitting in my truck in traffic on 93 South in my overalls eating cold beef stew out of a mug.)

Then I realized it's entirely uncouth to yuck someone else's yum. Someone wants a butter warmer? Let them have it. Why not a tuna can presser, or a hot dog sculpture maker? (These things do indeed exist.) Who am I to call anything foolish or unnecessary? Unless we are talking about Cybertrucks - those are unequivocally dumb.

I started to think about the question differently. What are the stars of the kitchen? The things you would rather not live without. Yes, the perfect pan, a really sharp knife and an oversized wine glass. But after that?

I thought about the Salt Bucket Thingy (SBT) that sits next to my stove top. It's a basic design and holds a couple cups of salt. When a recipe calls for a pinch or two, SBT has you covered. SBT holds court next to two oil dispensers; one squirt bottle and one spray; and two other containers of salt. Yes, more salt, always more salt. What are you, my PCP? It's all wonderfully convenient.

That little set up, not that any of you asked, is the MVP of my kitchen. What's yours? We would love to hear it.

We've got some rich and creamy crème fraîche for most of you today. Similar to sour cream but thicker and richer, it's gonna be great on some of those latkes we have in the holiday store. Use anywhere you'd use sour cream. Including:

Garlic Sour Cream Dip With Crunchy Onions - Perfect snack for a crowd. But we're not gonna judge you if it's dinner.

Halal Cart-Style Chicken and Rice With White Sauce - This is one of my favorite recipes of all time. Super tasty. And I'm hard pressed to think of a better use for the amazing, pillowy pitas from Sharonna's.

Tootie's Tempeh Recipes - Kinda cheating here but the folks at Tootie's Tempeh have a great list of recipes for all your tempeh needs. Check 'em out.
