Mozzarella House

It is entirely fitting that the photo here is of fresh cheese on a spoon, because that is just one of the myriad ways we like to enjoy it.

Whether part of a late summer caprese, as the final touch to your favorite pizza or straight from the tub at midnight in your pajamas (no judgement allowed) the Mozzarella House in Peabody, MA has some of the absolute best product around.

Fresh Mozzarella is a southern Italian semi soft, non-aged cheese that first enters the cooking literature in 1570 with Bartolemeo Scappi. Some scholars, however, date the origin back to Monsignor Alicandri in a 12th century monastery.

As for the hot button issue of the origin story of mozz, we prefer to remain neutral. All we care about is that Giuseppe Argentieri is making batch after batch of this magical stuff in his facility in Peabody and delivering to us at peak freshness. (Check out the beautiful mozzarella making video on their website, which is basically cheesy ASMR for your eyeballs.)

From Giuseppe about the story behind the cheese AND the best way to eat it:

"Mozzarella House was started in 1989 by a loverly couple from Avellino. They had a vision to start it and the passion to keep it running until one of their loyal customers (me) offered to purchase the business. That was 2009 and slowly I improved sales and production capability by adding product specific equipment that would alleviate the most laborious part of the job. During the years we have added some products (burrata, stracciatella) that currently have a strong following across the Boston area.

The ovoline is best served sliced, with tomatoes and little condiment (no to strong vinegar). On pizza, it will shine when preparing it Neapolitan style (large fluffy outer ring, moist center.)."

Beef with Penne and Fresh Mozz - This is not traditional Italian at all but it WILL deliciously get you through a busy week night with a few lunches to spare.

Swordfish Kabobs - Use all them veggies in your fridge! This recipe calls for pita. You can skip it, you could use some Sharona if you have your in your freezer or just serve over rice or a salad.

Buttered Leeks - you can do a million things with the leeks but sometimes simple is nice.

Creamy Chicken and Leeks Recipe - Good as is but could definitely use as a base for a tasty pot pie or just throw some puff pastry on top.

Chicken Mushroom Stir Fry - Same as above only maybe a lil' less crowd pleasing if you've got some folks who aren't too hot for mushrooms. Although this may change their mind.

Hot and Sour Dumpling Soup - Sure, you could pan fry or steam the delicious dumplings from Little Brother Chinese Food but there just as tasty if soup-ify 'em.

Amazing Coconut Curried Greens - A nice alternative to the classic southern recipes and a great side for...

Fish Curry - Just be gentle if you're using the hake as it's a bit more delicate. (Also a great monkfish recipe!)
