Cambridge, MA is something of a magical place. It's a rich stew of history meeting innovation, fresh faced newbies colliding and collaborating with folks who have been there for decades.

The Cambridge root system was small, family owned businesses that worked and tended to it for generations. The fruit is one of most high tech hubs in the world that seeks to solve society's great problems.

Maybe you have a tie to Cambridge. Maybe you live there now or lived there for years. Maybe you occupied a dorm room or you own one of the small businesses (What's up Forge Baking Co!). Maybe you teach or hold court on a lab bench. If Cambridge is or has been your home - there's a good chance you know or have had the joy of running into this man here.

Joe McGuirk has been serving the people of Cambridge for over 30 years at some of the city's most revered and cherished institutions (I don't want to fight you for a bar seat at Highland Kitchen but I will). He is a local sage, knowing everyone by name asking about their lives, caring about what grates them. As Cambridge evolved he saw how that evolution left so many folks behind; facing housing scarcity, job insecurity and more.

As a gut response, Joe dove into local politics. He's hell bent on making sure that while the city was reaching incredible heights, that it's not pulling the ladder up behind them on the generation of folks who tended to the root system, helping to make the city what it is today.

Joe's running again to do the good work and be a voice for the little guys. Guys like us at Family Dinner.

And maybe you're asking just what the heck a local carrot delivery business has to do with local politics. It's a tightly woven fabric; local food, local businesses, local activism. We lift and support each other, we make one hell of a backbone together. So check Joe out, give him a follow and enjoy the ride of one guy fighting the good fight.

Homemade Hamburger Helper: Use this week's bacon and pasta, drag out some ground beef from the fridge. You may look suspicious but this NYT recipe is one of the tastiest things I have made in a long time!

Corn and Potato Salad: Speaking of your overly full freezer, you could go into their blindfolded and pull out virtually any protein and this salad would be a beautiful pair.

Flounder with Panko: You can use regular breadcrumbs but I like the crunch the panko brings

Recipes (ME + NH)

Skillet Chicken with Baby Bok Choy - Week night action, right here. Comes together quickly and is a total crowd pleaser. Once your whole chicken breast is deboned and you've removed the skin, turn them into cutlets like this.

Chicken Mushroom Stir Fry - Same as above only maybe a lil' less crowd pleasing if you've got some folks who aren't too hot for mushrooms. Although this may change their mind.

Mahi Mahi Tacos - I'd be using some of the lovely South Paw Lucky Tiger tomatoes and red cabbage as toppings here which means a tomato salsa and a cabbage salad/slaw.

Falafel Salad - I'm a little jealous of the Vegetarian Share folks getting some falafel from Just Us. I might nab one and either do this simple but tasty salad or pull some pita out of the freezer and go with a wrap.
