Can't CHARDLY wait!

For the title of this email did I just make a mash up of a bright. leafy summer green and the 1998 teen classic "Can't Hardly Wait"? Sure did.

Two reasons for this groan worthy turn of phrase:

First, Jennifer Love Hewitt dishes out an incredibly compelling performance as deeply pensive high school student searching for love in all the totally expected places while Third Eye Blind croons their 90's banger to end all bangers "How's it gonna be".

Second, it's so hot I fear my brain has melted and these types of "jokes" are the only content I have left in me.

Let's get this plane off the runway....

This week we have Swiss Chard in shares in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Chard is in the beet family, except it doesn't produce an edible root. The leaves are hardy and the ribs are thick and crunchy.

The folks at University of Madison say that the nomming of Chard goes back to the Roman empire. They share that in the South of France it was grown for Christmas Eve feasts, for a Swiss Chard and Pine nut tart. These tarts, much like Third Eye Blind's late 90's anthem, absolutely smash it.

They're hardy enough to be eaten raw, simmered into a quiche or as a bed for this week's bangers. Martha Stewart (goddess) says you can put it on pizza.

You chard has a long back story, but lucky for you it was picked just yesterday.

Swiss Chard Pizza - I'm going to use ricotta or Fresh mozz and my tomatoes from last week. Don't yell at me, Martha.

Bangers and Mash - you have the bangers. here is the gravy. Use potatoes, put on top of a piece of warm buttered bread. Dream up something crazy.

Blue Fin Tuna and Olives - Martha again folks! Never would have thought of olives and blue fin but lets gooooo.

Recipes (ME + NH)

Bangers and Mash With Onion Gravy - Classic as classic gets. Kinda like delicious Tributary's Pale Ale which was used in these awesome sausages.

Sicilian Swordfish - Bright, punchy, salty, a touch sweet. "Sicilian" anything makes my mouth water. I'm willing to bet you could treat firm tofu in the same manner as the swordfish for a vegetarian version. (And this might serve as a good reference point.)

Grilled Swordfish Steaks - Want something more straight forward? Check this one out. Salt, pepper, a bit of oil and a lovely hunk of swordfish grilled over coals. Serve with any seasonal veg.

Beef and Pepper Stir Fry - We've got some monstrous green bell peppers in shares this week and this is what I'm doing with mine.

Elote (Mexican Street Corn) - One of the best things. Slightly challenge to eat for the bearded (👋) so you can also make a salad thusly.
