Good Morning,

Erin is out to day so I (Joe) am jumping in. Sorry in advance.

This past Tuesday, after packing shares, Erin and I got to wander and eat our way through Sustainable Business Network's Local Food Show at Russell's Garden Center in Wayland.

And while the name might come off a bit... vanilla, it was anything but. Well, except the things that had vanilla in them. We traipsed and ate our way through the greenhouses of Russell's and saw buds we've worked with for years like Giuseppe from Mozzarella House (seen above), Atilla from Magic Bites and Chris from Boston Smoked Fish.

We also had the chance to finally meet, in-person, a handful of growers and producers that we've also been buying from for years. Among others, Lily from Kitchen Garden Farm and Ben from Harvest Maine.

Most importantly, we sampled (gorged) ourselves on locally produced goodies, looking for things that we think you'd love. Business cards were swapped, all sorts of sweets and empanadas and granola were scarfed, and Erin and I rolled out of there fat and happy. THE THINGS WE DO FOR WORK. Truly an act of selflessness. (Less selfless, was when we beelined it over a couple miles to Dudley Chateau, one of my favorite hidden gems of a tavern. Hey... we were thirsty.)

The event was an amazing reminder, walking from table to table, at how vibrant and inspired our community of food-obsessed people are. Full bellies and fuller hearts. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday afternoon.

Butternut Squash Soup - Super fast and perfect for this time of year. They don't call it soup season for nothing.

Roasted Butternut Squash Ravioli - Doubling down on the butternut squash recipes. First, because this is a super fun weekend project and everyone (yes, everyone) should know how to make fresh pasta. Second, because this and other recipes are missing a crucial step that will yield better filling and an extra treat. After roasting the squash, throw it in some cheese cloth and squeeze to get more liquid out. BUT SAVE THAT LIQUID. Squeezing will make for a better filling and that liquid? Reduce that down in a sauce pan on low heat for a bit and you have butternut squash syrup. Seriously. Drizzle on yogurt or pork chops, replace simple syrup in savory cocktails, whisk with some vinegar for salad dressing. It's kinda mind blowing.

Cajun Sausage and Rice Skillet - Holy crap, yes. Kinda of a cheater jambalaya, this is a delicious, filling crowd pleaser and 90% of the active work is measuring ingredients.
