Two things

Speaking of rays of sunshine, here's two little nuggets for your day:

First, our good friend Tara Vaccaro, long time Family Dinner customer and super supporter, has launched her 3rd annual fundraiser to support the efforts of Everytown who are trying to end gun violence in our country.

Tara and I met one million years ago when we were both French and Spanish teachers at North Reading Middle School at the magical time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. She is a force and beacon of positivity and energy.

Tickets are $5 each and there are over 20 prizes from local businesses, including this one. Sometimes things feel so damn overwhelming and that is impossible for one person, or one small group of people to make a difference. Tara is hoping to prove that to be false. Please donate if you can.

Second, in the small town I live in there is a wonderful little coffee shop, Zumi's. Every morning (except, inexplicably, for Thursdays) a group of seniors gather to sip coffee, peruse the paper and share the news of the day. There is comforting wholesomeness to their presence.

The other day, mid-banter one of the men interrupts conversation to proclaim "He's here!"

The two men stood immediately, donned their coats and headed to the door. Shamelessly curious, I wondered who they were so excited to see. Was it a 5th member of the coffee crew? The town mayor? (I don't think we have one) Jesus himself?

It turned out that their exuberance was at the arrival of Marvin, a 90 pound yellow lab who comes to the shop each morning on a walk with his owners. The woman goes in for coffee and Marvin stands outside being showered in love and scratches by two men in their eighties. The force of his tail wags could propel a jet engine.

What does this have to do with food? Zero. It's just awesome and heartwarming and I hope someone makes you feel like Marvin today.
