A Love Letter...

Good Morning!

A few notes this morning:

1. It's gonna be reaaaal toasty this weekend. Please leave a cooler out for your delivery if you don't plan to be home. This will protect your delicious goodies from melting like the Wicked Witch of the West at the end of The Wizard of Oz. (Which I think we can all agree is an absolutely terrifying movie.)

2. We have new items in the store! New varieties of coffee from Tandem Roasters and Chocolate Milk from Crescent Ridge Dairy join all the other fun add-ons and Picks of the Week in the Build - Your - Own section of the store. (Have I been drinking chocolate milk by the gallon straight out of the container? Yes. Do I have any regrets? Not. a. one.) Have any questions about add-ons or modifying your share? Feel free to email us: hello@sharefamilydinner.com.

3. Our segment on New England Living with the great folks at Clark Farm aired Sunday. If you missed it, check it out! It was really fun to see this thing that all of you helped us build highlighted so beautifully.

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Much Love,

The Family Dinner Fam

A LOVE LETTER

It seems like eons ago that this photo was taken at our beloved old space at Foundation Kitchen. Tim and I were bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and pleased as punch to be delivering a whopping 30 shares a week. We have grown quite a bit since then, moved into our own kitchen space and, thanks to you all, grown to doing almost 700 deliveries a week. With that growth we are also honing our processes to make them greener and more sustainable, while continuing to bring you the best food we can find! This week Shannon, the team, and I wanted to highlight some of those efforts.

"Sustainability means a whole lot of different things to everyone, whether that be around environmental, social, or food and agriculture. It's a complicated world with vast systems. However, there are a few spaces that we have carved out within our own operations to try to achieve more in terms of sustainability. Could there be more that we can do? Always. But at our scale and capacity, these are the steps we are taking at the moment." Shannon

Materials: We are back to using fabric bags, and we LOVE seeing them left out for us at delivery. Each week we collect them from you, clean, sanitize, and reuse them. The green bags your cold items are in aren't beautiful, but they ARE compostable. We're proud that your shares don't come delivered in miles of materials that you can't reuse. This works with the farmers as well--they deliver to us in reusable containers that we clean and return each week.

Recycling: We pay to compost any food scraps that come from packing, and to recycle every piece of paper and cardboard that comes into the space (down to the Post-it notes, we may be a bit maniacal). Olivia also found us a light plastic recycling company and hunts down every scrap of plastic sheeting with zeal.

Sourcing: We work to source our food as locally as possible. This helps us eliminate the food miles and CO2 emissions associated with the global food supply chain. We also employ a suite of technologies that allows us to keep near zero inventory week to week; we order to meet exact demand.  This helps eliminate food waste in our facility.  By sourcing locally we are also helping sustain the local food economy, putting hundreds of thousands of dollars a year back into our communities.

These are just a few quick snap shots of our efforts.  There is a LOT more that we want to do, and will be able to do as we grow. It's not perfect, but we don't need a few people doing zero waste perfectly, we need millions of people doing zero waste imperfectly.

WHAT'S IN THE BAG?

RECIPES

(from Shannon)

Glazed Hakurei Turnips - If I can say anything about the Hakurei, it is that it will make you rethink everything you've ever thought about turnips--delicious with sweet roots and bitter greens, use the whole bunch!

For the Love of Greens - We are in peak greens season while this time of year is *not* supposed to be as hot as the thermometers are showing. Use them interchangeably or not, but this is a good article to keep bookmarked for the next few weeks with what's likely going to be in the shares.

Salmon with Mustard Greens and Vinaigrette - Bright greens and salmon! Can't ask for an easier dinner!

Kielbasa Sheet Pan Dinner - Easy one pan dinner and a great way to use up any veggies you have hanging around!

Kielbasa Pasta Salad - Another great veggie clearing recipe. Use what you got, add some dressing and the smokey kielbasa and you got a yummy and easy dinner for one of these warmer nights ahead!

Massaged Kale Salad - Don't be intimated by curly kale! Give it a little love, a nice dressing and some crunchy toppings (again, what's in your pantry? Then add that!) and you have a quick and wonderful dinner/lunch/snack/breakfast (I do love some good breakfast greens!!)

Kale Chips - You thought I wouldn't add any more crazy chip recipes after we finished root season, hehe. I did and how can you not love a kale chip! It only takes 15 minutes!

Scallion Pancakes - I will never not repost this recipe whenever I get the chance! So delicious!

Purple Potato Gnochi - I was really hoping someone would send a picture of their purple creation last time around. If you make them, I want to see it!!! Email a picture in to us at recipes@sharefamilydinner.com!!!!

Want to share recipes that wow'ed you or show off something incredible that is just going to make me hungry while checking emails? (Or send us pics of your dog with your share??)  Drop us a line over at recipes@sharefamilydinner.com. We'll be highlighting your recipes and creations in coming weeks!  (I am loving all the things you have sent! Stay tuned for highlights coming soon!)
