Our First Birthday!
It's official. Family Dinner is turning 1 and we couldn't be prouder.
Its been a long and exciting year of learning, growth and delicious, delicious food.
None of this would have been possible with out the patient support and forgiveness of our wonderful network of farmers, fisherman, bakers, makers, drivers and packers. They show up and bring their best in the 90 degree heat waves and the depths of a miserable New England winter.
We owe a huge thanks to our moms, to our friends and to anyone with two ears who has had to listen to us drone on and on about local agriculture and how its going to change the world.
More than anything, we owe a huge thank you to our members; who believe in the mission, who love good food and who put up with our terrible jokes.
We are elated to run this business and humbled to have all of you along for the ride.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Love,
Erin, Tim and Frank the Dog

RECIPES
We are STILL eating eggplant parm from last week. I am SO EXCITED to talk about something else:
Mustard Greens: These greens are related to kale and collards but they have a bright peppery taste and are used in many Indian and Asian recipes. Take a bite of one raw and that peppery note will hit you right in the nose. Cooked they mellow out a bit and go beautifully with fish, pork or rice dishes. And yes, this IS from a website called "ALLWOKSOFLIFE". Love, love, love it!
Asian White Fish: Ginger and soy, you had us at hello. This recipe is ready for whatever you have in your cupboard and will forgive you for what you don't have.
Spaghetti Squash: People love to say that spaghetti squash tastes just like spaghetti but we are calling bs on that one. Don't set yourself up for failure in thinking that squash will ever taste like fresh pasta, it won't. But it is still super delicious and a beautiful base for any sauteed meat or fish you want to throw on it. And for the fresh pasta, don't worry. We got you there too.
Fried Rice- This week is a perfect week to bring in our favorite "Don't Throw That Away I'll Eat it" recipe: Fried Rice. Fried rice will empty your fridge and feed you for days. The key is cooking your ingredients one by one, setting them aside in separate bowls until you're ready for the big show. We make ours in a cast iron the size of a hockey rink that Erin bought Tim for valentines day one year. Suuuper romantic. When its time take your cooked rice and put it in the hot cast iron with some oil. Add some soy sauce and some sriracha, or sesame oil. Stir but not frequently, let it crisp on the bottom. (Yum!) Add in your meat or fish, eggs and veggies. Stir, taste, stir. Add more soy or more hot sauce and then you are ready for perfect rice happiness.
Raw Tuna, Real Talk: You can 100% sauté or grill this tuna if you wish. If it touches the heat for less than 60 second a side, that's best. Overcooking something so beautiful would be deeply sad. in our house we will just slice it thinly and prep a sauce of ginger, garlic and soy to eat it raw with. If you felt like being a bit more fancy and dialing up your inner hipster; here is a poke bowl to try at home. It looks delicious!
