Hi friends!

I’m Brian! In addition to being one of the friendly folks on the other end of hello@sharefamilydinner.com (write in! I love hearing from you!), the fool that disappeared for 7 months to hike the Appalachian Trail (I still can’t believe they took me back), as well as one of our delivery drivers, I am capable of writing in complete sentences and Erin needed someone to do the newsletter this week, so here we are!

We’re in the throes of a weird, mercurial month. It has sleeted within a few days of a spectacular, sunny day that wouldn’t have been out of place in June, which I think should be illegal. The last gasp of winter, and the first, few glorious days of spring are fighting like siblings, and can’t seem to stop interrupting each other.

This weekend, though, it looks like we’re splitting the difference and are due for some 40 degree rain. Throw in a steady 20 mph wind, a touch of Boston traffic, and as many road closures with poorly marked detours as possible, and you have the perfect conditions for delivering groceries. But hey, the Red Sox revamped their roster this offseason and open the season in Texas, so if you’re anything like me, you’ve got a weekend of baseball to look forward to.

Wherever you’re at in this topsy-turvy season, we’ve got you covered.

Front and center this week is Torcerre pasta from our pals over at Deano’s in Somerville. Serve that with your favorite sauce and top it with some out-of-this-world mozzarella from the Mozzarella House and some delightful cocktail tomatoes from Backyard Farms. We’ve also got fresh romaine from Springworks too, pointing to warmer days ahead, and perfect for a side salad.

For those of you hoping to enjoy the last bits of the cozier side of winter, don’t worry. We’ve got potatoes, carrots, and rutabagas on offer too, equally tasty roasted as a side dish (perhaps to those pork chops?) or as the bulk of a hearty soup. And the pasta would go great in there too (But cook it separately! It will absorb all the broth and quickly lose its structural integrity! Or don’t! Do what you want! This is just how I make soup!).

So, here’s to spring, here’s to good food, here’s to the Red Sox returning to playoff contention, and here’s to shoring up community resilience through sustainable, local food systems in the face of widespread systemic decay.

Pork Chops and Pears with Spicy Mustard Greens - Our grower's pears are done for the year but you could easily sub in apples (if you've still got some left from this past cycle). And it's great to heartier greens coming back around! It's been a tough spring with the weather turning on a dime.

Pickled Mustard Greens: Grandma’s Homemade Haam Choy - Speaking of mustard greens, pickled mustard greens are amazing. And this is how you make them. And they're usable in another pork chop recipe here.

Fully Grilled Caesar Salad - Caesar Salads are clearly the emperor of all salads (Cobb has something to say about that...). But they're not all created equal. The best, IMO, use grilled romaine and 3x as many anchovies as any reasonable person thinks necessary. And I'd not server this with that slab of toasted bread but, rather, pull apart some decent bread and make your own croutons.
