Good morning!

A few things:

We still have a few of the beautiful Ribeyes, Sirloins and Porterhouses from Cold Spring Ranch. We've huddled all these masterpieces into a section of the store we're calling THE MEATS. Go and get you some!

Thank you for all of your donations of dry goods for La Colaborativa! We will be delivering a few carloads of it over this week. Family Dinner is adding 200# beef, 100 dozen eggs and 900# of potatoes and carrots to this haul to help our neighbors facing food insecurity.

We wanted to share a few fun facts about Family Dinner, and about life.

Pick of the Week: Have you met our Picks of the Week section in the store? We have a wonderful rotating selection of breads, cheese, pasta, pastry, vegetarian soup, mezze and more! You can add them to your on-going subscription or make your choices week to week. Some of our favorite mezze are the grape leaves from Magic Bites, the tzatziki from Sophia's (made with her incredible yogurt) and the black olive tapenade from Dave's.

(The infinite nature of our referral program reminds of of a time when I was a TJ Maxx dressing room as a kid. Penguins: This may or may not be relevant (it isn't) but did you know that penguins have knees? Their legs may look all stubby tubby but there are knees in there! Check out this page to see the x-ray which is just about the most metal thing I have ever seen.

Low Waste: One of our main objectives is to be a low waste company. It's not just the reusable fabric bags and the green compostable bags; its built into the DNA of the company. On the back end we have custom coded software so we can order to meet exact demand to eliminate food waste.

Joe Grotto: Our GM of Maine and my best pal Joe Grotto is not only a great friend and committed foodie, he's also a member of Gozu, Family Dinner's favorite rock band. The sound is loud and wildly awesome. Metal Blade records has this to say about them:

Turns out that Joe Grotto is almost as metal as a penguin with knees.

Creamy pasta with Italian Sausage: Sure, its not the lightest. But maybe you had a bite of kale this week and it's all about balance. This dish feels like a warm hug.

Roasted Maple Carrots: The hint of chili makes all the difference here. If you don't have chili flakes, how about cayenne?

Simple Potato Soup: Nothing fancy to see here, just pure comfort. You can snazz it up with some bacon crumbles, or leeks, or throw in a fistful of any herbs you have laying around.

Pizza night! Like last time, I'm going to be quoting myself from a previous newsletter. "Work smarter, not harder," they say, right? This week's dough brought to you by Rosemont Market & Bakery.

As always, for the dough, defrost overnight in the fridge and then a few hours before you plan to shape it, let it rise, covered, on your counter. It'll be way easier to work with.

Spicy Pork Sausage and Mushroom Pizza

Italian Sausage and Mushroom Calzone - Or calzone it up. Here's one standard-cause-it's-delicious version but the world is your filling.

Other Pizza Dough Uses

For soirées: Killer Garlic Knots, Garlic Sticks
For dessert: Apple Galette, Cinnamon Twists
For breakfast: Breakfast Stromboli, Cinnamon Rolls

Sausage and Black Bean Chili - I'd definitely put "Chili" in quotes here as Italian sausage is not something you find in chili. That said, this is a great exercise in riffing with what you got to make something delicious.

Pan-Fried Sole Fillet - Sole's thinness makes it a great candidate for a quick pan fry. Gussy it up with a lil' salad action:

Little Gem Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette - If it's good enough for Nancy Silverton, it's good enough for me.
