Two Good things.

I've been feeling like a joy monger recently, a decidedly abrupt departure from my normal Eeyore-esque nature. Maybe it's the sunshine, the abundance of fresh scallions or a residual high from too much birthday cake. Either way, there has been lots to fête.

First is that the Community Cooks Gone with the Gala fundraiser is live. Community Cooks an incredible organization seeking to address food insecurity in our cities. They mobilize over 650 volunteers to provide home-cooked meals that support 37 Greater Boston partner nonprofits and nourish 20,000 neighbors in need every year. 20,000 people a year. That number is amazing. These are the most vulnerable in our communities. Domestic violence survivors, the unhoused, youth at risk.

This is my second year on the board, and I am continually in awe of their work. Would you consider supporting this work? Any donation of any size is greatly appreciated.

And because bribery is all the rage, if you send me a screenshot of your donation I'll add extra treats and a handwritten dad joke to your next share.

Second, the Scripps National Spelling Bee came to an end last night with 13 year old Faizan Zaki spelling éclaircissement correctly and being showered with applause and confetti. The video is pure joy. Give yourself a moment. You deserve it.

And there's more little sparks all around. Birthday celebrations with friends, a new baby at Iron Ox farm, the start of Pride and yes. More cake.

Recipes

Grilled BBQ Chicken - Old school classic. This household has been craving it all spring and, now that the sun is out, we're making it happen this weekend. We're gonna be ~~lazy~~ practical and use a bottle of our fav BBQ sauce. Ours is from Joe's KC BBQ (if you know, you know). And yeah, it's not local but you can buy here or, if you're feeling like more of a project, make it at home. (Use those lettuce heads for an amazing side salad.)

Alice Waters' Spaghetti with Green Garlic - Archetypal Alice Waters here. Its simplicity defies how damn tasty it is. And when dishes are so spartan on ingredients, the quality of those ingredients begins to matter more and more. We've got you covered.

Scallop Pasta - Apparently, I'm pasta crazy right now. I blame the scallops most of you are getting. SCALLOPS. This dish is delicious and a great way to stretch these (very) expensive morsels of the sea.
