If Horses Gallop....

Good Morning!

A few notes!

  • Easter Ordering is LIVE! Brisket! Hams! Lamb and more! See the full collection here.
  • Survey reminder! Family Dinner has put together a survey to help us understand how we are doing in your eyes and how to improve.  If you have THREE MINUTES to fill this out it would be extraordinarily helpful! Thank you!
  • Food workers are eligible for vaccines and we are so excited that our team has started to get vaccinated.  As we navigate shots and reactions, we may be a bit short handed and may experience slight delays. We apologize for any delays, but we are pleased as punch to getting shots in folks' arms. Thank you for your patience with us.
  • The Drumlin Farm lettuce containers are compostable! Although industrial compostable, the farmer said she has heard of people putting them into their home compost, it will just take a bit longer to breakdown. Three Cheers for turning stuff into dirt!
  • On a fun note: one of our amazing Team Members Erica (Realtor Extraordinaire who Moonlights as a Family Dinner Driver) is doing an interview series with local business owners, makers and artists. She sat down with us to talk about food, business and the magic of Trina's Starlite Lounge.  Even better is her interview with Sam Williams of Nine Acre Photography (and Fam Din Alum!) about his powerful work.

Have a wonderful day folks, we look forward to seeing you soon!

Best,

Erin + Tim

IF HORSES GALLOP, DO SEAHORSES SCALLOP?

This week, with the warmer weather I found myself really craving seafood, scallops in particular.  Some nice citrusy/peppery greens, a glass of crisp white and scallops simmered in a jacuzzi of local butter.  It sounded like heaven. So when Jamey from Red's Best told me a boatload had landed, I couldn't help but order for the Pescatarians in the room. I order them for you, but also for myself. I admit to being shellfish.

A few things to note about scallops:

  • Scallops are King scallops are bivalve molluscs. The term “bivalve” is derived from the Latin “bis”, meaning “two” and valvae, meaning “leaves of a door"
  • Scallops are the only bivalve mollusk that can swim. They do this by opening and closing their shells to move themselves through water.
  • Scallop have anywhere from 50 - 200 bright blue eyes lining their shell. That's a lot of eyes!
  • These little guys can have a life span of up to 20 years!
  • Scallops, like almost anything, are made better by copious amounts of butter.

Seared, fried, or baked - we hope you enjoy them! Here's a few ideas to get you going. We can't wait to see what you made.
