Funky Fiddles.
Hello, folks!
A couple fun announcements:
Love on Mom/Treat Yourself: We have launched a Momma's Day collection in the store that we are pleased as punch to share. We love fêting a good holiday around here, but also love putting together a beautiful collection for you to Treat Yourself and make a holiday out of any day.
This collection is chock-full of goods from some bad-ass woman-owned businesses like Karen from Fox & the Knife (Bucatini! Focaccia!), Jen from Forge Baking Co (Bake at Home Sticky Buns!), EHChocolatier (BON BONS, BABY!), Sarah from VINAL (English Muffins made by angels!), and so much more. Whatever you want to celebrate, these little delights are here for you.
Note: Vinal Muffins are SATURDAY delivery ONLY
Non-Local, but Still Awesome Veggies
Last week, we are added three non-local items to the store: Organic, Fair Trade Avocados and Bananas, and Organic Citrus. These items will NEVER show up in your regular shares--they will only show up if you order them specifically. Shannon wanted to let you know the why of this choice, why these avos and bananas in particular. She shares the story of Equal Exchange and the importance of organic here.
Have a great day, we will see you soon!

FUNKY FIDDLES
Often, when less well-known veggies come through the seasonal mix, we can only include them in the Double Shares given that they are very limited in quantity. This week Shannon knew it was Fiddlehead season and was determined to get them for everyone. She tracked down Fiddleheads with the ferocity of Indiana Jones seeking the Holy Grail in the Last Crusade and we hope you love them. (Can someone please tell the Millennials in the room who Harrison Ford is?)
Fiddleheads are the curly fronds of a young fern, used in many Asian, Indian, and French cuisines. They have a slightly earthy or woody taste, like a second cousin of asparagus who did a semester abroad and came back with an attitude.
Known by their scientific name Polystichum munitum from the genus Fernus Fiddillium Maximus*, they are abundant in North America but need to be very carefully harvested, so as to not destroy the plant. These little guys come from Joe Czajkowski's 400-acre farm in Hadley, MA and they are ready for supper time.
When thinking about what to do with a new ingredient, I love to turn to the KITCHN, a site that shares the story of an ingredient as well as several ideas on how to prepare it. On the topic of Fiddleheads they ask: "How can you not love something that looks like it came straight from a Tim Burton movie?" Good Question. Clean them and treat them simply--a bit of olive oil and a touch of salt will do. Add to pasta or rice. If you're feeling saucy, try them in a curry. We can't wait to see what you make!
*This term is 100% made up, but I like it.
