Early Bird Gets the Pastry

Picture it: it’s 6:00 am on a Saturday— no one is awake, but the Family Dinner crew is on their way to our Woburn location to pack out groceries for the day. The smell of freshly baked Kouign Aman from A&J King fills the space. 90s rock plays over the loud speakers.

Team treats await each of the drivers and inside crew to snack on. These usually come from our friends over at Forge, A&J King, Sophia’s Greek Pantry, or one of the many other lovely local businesses we are fortunate to work with.

Before 8 am, the first round of orders need to be packed out and ready for drivers to be picked up. The team is divided inside by “veg line” and “meat squad.” The veg line packs everything that you see in your black bags – veggies, grains, pastries, treats, and more! The meat squad, on the other hand, packs your green bags (or insulated black bags if you have a big order) with your meats, cheeses, fish, and pastas!

The veg line packs out orders from largest to smallest in order to optimize efficiency. These orders are organized into “fleets” with 2-3 drivers per fleet. Drivers arrive in 10 minute increments starting at 8 am. The drivers’ orders are arranged on rolling racks marked with duct tape labeled with their name and number of stops so it is easily identifiable when they walk in. As the drivers arrive they confirm each order with another team member before grabbing a team treat and loading up their car. Drivers then set off on their routes to make sure the fabulous goodies get safely delivered to you, the customer!

Saturdays can get pretty hectic but we wouldn’t trade what we do for anything… okay maybe for a couple of those Kouign Amann I mentioned earlier.

Please email us by Sunday evening if you'd like us to skip the order that is due to process on Monday! This would not be for the items listed above but for the following delivery. It really, REALLY helps us if you skip BEFORE orders process early Monday morning.

You can take us with you! Get in touch and we'll put together a custom package of goodies to keep you sated while you're enjoying the Cape or Bar Harbor. If you're expecting to be away for several weeks or months we can put your subscription on hold.

What do I do with these bags/ice packs?

Please leave them outside for our drivers to collect and return to home base. We'll get them cleaned up and back into rotation.
