SOUP FOR YOU (and Some Dahlias)

We're working with our buds at Red Fire Farm in Western MA to do a dahlia pop-up! These big ole' orbs of brightness are pure, autumnal bliss. A bunch for you and a bunch for a loved one, perhaps?

This will be a one-week-only thing and for our MA customers. (Sorry, ME/NH peeps!) Order before 11:59pm on Mon. and these will be delivered, along with the rest of your order, on Sat., Oct. 14 or Tues. Oct. 17.

Now onto the main event:

We were instantly drawn to this soup recipe from yesterday's New York Times, it feels like an open armed hug for so many of the early fall Family Dinner items. It is infinitely riff-able. If you hate mushrooms, skip 'em. Want to add leftover pork or chicken or a poached white fish, why the heck not?

Make it as spicy as you want with extra chili crisp (or sriracha) and as salty as your little heart desires with more soy sauce.

We always keep dried soba or udon noodles in the pantry for just this dish and it is always incredibly rewarding. You can give yourself a hug for having made it!

We know we have sung the NYT cooking praises before and that it is behind a pay wall, which in a swirling circus of free content can feel like a step too far. But it is quite honestly one of the best, most thorough and most convenient cooking tools we use consistently.

Recipes (MA)

Tuna and Bok Choy: This tuna from True Fin is a True Delight. This recipe wants you to coat the fish in sesame. Go for it or skip to save time. The bok choy wants a nice sear and can have a taste of the soy and ginger. Great way to use your scallions too!

Collard Greens and Pasta: Its a mistake to think that these beautiful hearty greens need to be cooked to death forever and a day and served with fatty meats (zero judgement, also delicious). Key is to slice them very thinly to get a quick cook.

Ravioli of the Week: No link here, just some advice from your old pal, Erin. Cook them up a bit al dente. Return to the pan and cut up a few pats of butter, off heat but in the hot pan. Add plenty of grated parm/pecorino romano and ground pepper. Think ravioli cacio e pepe. Yummmmm.

Grilled Swordfish Steaks With Herbed Corn Salad - Last corn of the season! Can't think of a more perfect way to hi five summer and say, "See you next year, bud. Rest easy."

Spicy Stir-Fried Tofu With Corn, Green Beans and Cilantro - Another great way to use that corn that is tasty and, incidentally, vegan. That is, until you throw some bacon in there, too.

Za'atar-Spiced Wings - Za'atar and wings are a great duo. The grill is a great way to go. That said, air frying will give deep frying a run for its money.

Bitter Greens Salad With Melted Cheese - We love radicchio but it's bitterness can use some taming. In this recipe, creamy taleggio or fontina does the job splendidly.

Sorrel Sauce - Pretty excited to get some of you sorrel this week. This lovely leafy plant is half herb and half salad green. Acidic and citrusy yet tender. Sorrel sauce is a super classic way to use it and is great on just about any protein. Also great to throw into soups for a bit of zip.
