Fruit shares are back

Good morning everyone!

Fruit shares and flower shares are BACK! In the fruit share you'll get two portions weekly of whatever delights are in season. For flowers we have bunches and bouquets to brighten up your day.

Fruit shares will be available in Maine, New Hampshire and Mass but the flower shares are Massachusetts only, for now!

Reminder: We will NOT be delivering on Tuesday July 4th. All regularly scheduled deliveries for that day will take place on Wednesday July 5th.

Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice just passed us and despite the rain has us feeling as bright and cheery as kittens (whatever that means).

Given that I'm sure you come to Family Dinner for your daily dose of heliophysics; here's a little breakdown of what the solstice actually means from our friends at the National Weather Service:

The summer solstice occurs at the moment the earth's tilt toward the sun is at a maximum. Therefore, on the day of the summer solstice, the sun appears at its highest elevation with a noontime position that changes very little for several days before and after the summer solstice.

So, had it not been dumping Biblical rain on us, with more to come, we would have be basking in the glow of the sunniest sun.

The prospect of more rain has us thinking about summer cooking projects like a zucchini risotto, or Food and Wine's colorful collection of summer soups.

What ever you get up to this weekend, we hope it's delicious. Happy Fourth, folks!

Summer Soups: A variety of lighter summer soups to stave off the cold and the rain

One perfect Slice: Tomato Mozzarella Toasts are the perfect summer snack/lunch/dinner/anytime you put food in your mouth dish. With fresh mozz I oil the bread and toast it, then add the fresh mozz and tomato with more oil and lovely dusting of flake salt.

Chicken and Zucchini Party: Im adding onions and plenty of garlic to this one.

Recipes (ME + NH)

Homemade Burger King Whopper-Style Cheeseburgers - My go to burgers-on-the-grill jam. Delicious and super easy to crank out at your next cookout. Especially tasty with the Cold Spring Ranch ground beef which have them grind with a pretty hefty amount of brisket and short rib. YES. PLEASE.

Grilled Radicchio and Knob Onion Salad - "Knob onion?" you ask? They're the super tasty fresh onions that are just being harvested now. The onion will eventually be cured/dried out which is what you see the rest of the year. They're amazing. And a great sweet foil for the bitter radicchio. This would be a great side to anything beefy, like the skirt steak some of you are receiving. Heck, I'd even throw it on top of a grilled burger with some blue cheese or fontina.

Smoked Bluefish and Smoked Bluefish Spread - Bluefish... it's pretty divisive. BUT, even those that are kinda horrified about its fishiness can generally get down with it when smoked and turned into a pâté or spread. Also, smoking is a super fun project that provides a great excuse to say "no" to plans and stay anchored to your backyard. Don't have a smoker? If you have a charcoal grill, you have a smoker, too.
