Family Dinner Hits the Big Apple

Good morning friends!

Bit of housekeeping: we're having some weather this weekend! This will mean we'll likely be a bit slower with deliveries this Saturday. (Safety first!) Hooray for our intrepid drivers. A bit of patience would be splendid.

We spent the past few days at Climate Week in NYC nerding out about sustainable agriculture, food systems and the good work of Family Dinner.

Each year Climate Week is hosted with the UN General Assembly and brings together over 100,000 people across 1,000 events to discuss everything from decarbonization, supply chain management, AI regulation and the future of farming. Though the issues are pressing and dire, there was cause for optimism. It was an absolute dream to be around so many people who care deeply about these issues and who spend their time and the workings of their big brains trying to make the world a better place.

Family Dinner was invited to participate by the World Economic Forum's Uplink group - the Forum's early stage innovation engine that hosts the Yes/Cities initiative. This summer Family Dinner was selected to be a part of the Yes/Boston initiative - the first cohort being hosted by the city. Our work as a part of this cohort is to examine the myriad food equity and access issues being faced by the city and explore ways in which local farmers and growers can bridge gaps.

In New York we got to present on our work, attend events on women in leadership (I sat at a dinner next to the CEO of Sesame Street which is just about the greatest job I can imagine) and hear from policy makers and innovators in the food space. My head is spinning with possibilities and ideas. I'm exhausted.

But before napping, a thank you.

I was incredibly proud to talk about Family Dinner and the work of this community of people. It was joyful to talk about Family Dinner's humble beginnings and all the people who have supported us in the 9 (NINE!) years since packing and delivering our first shares. Thank you all for the love, the support and for helping to build a stronger, more resilient local food system.

Much love,

Erin

I need to skip this week!

Please email us by Sunday evening if you'd like us to skip the order that is due to process on Monday! This would not be for the items listed above but for the following delivery. It really, REALLY helps us if you skip BEFORE orders process early Monday morning.

I'm traveling this week/month/year!

You can take us with you! Get in touch and we'll put together a custom package of goodies to keep you sated while you're enjoying the Cape or Bar Harbor. If you're expecting to be away for several weeks or months we can put your subscription on hold.

I'm allergic and/or hate this item!

Send us an email with your name and we'll make a note to your account to substitute those items when they're a part of your share.

What do I do with these bags/ice packs?

Please leave them outside for our drivers to collect and return to home base. We'll get them cleaned up and back into rotation.

We want YOU... to email us

If something is amiss in your order, or you need to make a special request, we want to know about it. Email us—we love hearing from you and we're happy to help however we can!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Recipes

Crispy Baked Pesto Tofu - Recipe calls for vegan pesto but Dave's has parm so vegans beware! I'm using this recipe, subbing vegan ingredients with vegetarian ingredients and tossing on polenta (with tons of butter and more parm, of course).

The Best Confit Is Tuna Confit - A bit hyperbolic but I challenge you to make this and disagree. Plus, Samin Nosrat is the best and you should listen to everything she says. (Her podcast, Home Cooking, with Rishi Hirway from Song Exploder, is the BEST.)

Charred Cabbage Caesar - We hit up the lovely and adorable Luncheonette last weekend for lunch and had an approximation of this. We flipped our wigs. Have your wig flipped, too.
