Season of the Hoodie

That's right folks. Somehow it's hoodie season and tomato season at the very same time. That liminal space in the calendar between sundresses and fleece onesies with feet.

You've sent your children, precious little goblins that they are, mercifully back to school. You swell with pride to see them on the bus and sing psalms of relief as their ferocious little faces ride off into the distance, into the capable caring arms of teachers who are certainly not paid enough.

Or, if you're a childless cat (dog) lady like me, you're just trying to rebuild your threadbare sanity as summer ends as we careen into another presidential election.

It's a time of transition where lots of things live together at the same time. And that glorious, sometimes confusing, cohabitation is represented in this week's shares as well. Heirloom tomatoes and basil sit side by side with delicata squash. Bunched radishes are cozying up to cabbages and tomatillos.

While some juxtapositions can be jarring, (it's 75 degrees and your co-workers are mainlining pumpkin spice everything), I'm looking to lean into this one.

I want to treat the veggies as lightly as possible, raw when possible or just a simple roasting and a hearty baptism by olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and savor the seasons and their delicate waltz.
