Fresh flowers make everything just a little bit better and a whole lot brighter.

One of the grand dames of cooking said that having fresh flowers in a vase makes every dinner party 50% more enjoyable and delicious. I don't know which dame that was, Julia, Ina or Martha (it definitely wasn't Giada - she frightens me)... but I agree. Even a simple arrangement in a chipped mason jar is an un-extravagant moment of whimsy. A wink of joy.

Not everyone agrees. While recently pursuing the archives of the New York Times (what do YOU do on a Saturday night?) I stumbled upon this article from 1982 about the history of decorative blooms at the table. Flowers with dinner date back to Cleopatra and Nero who sprinkled rose petals across the spread to delight their guests. But according to the article, "Craig Claiborne, food editor of The New York Times, however, feels that the odor of the blossoms can interfere with the taste of the food. ''Definitely no overpowering scented flowers,'' he says. 'I feel the same way about cigar smoke or a man wearing a strong cologne to a dinner. Both are terrible.'''

All that to say - flowers are back in the Family Dinner store!! Whether you want a weekly bunch or an abundant bouquet we can't wait to bring 'em to you. Add them to your weekly delivery for yourself, your partner, or just for your dog. (Who totally deserves it for being the best dog ever. Tell the dog I say hi.)

There you have it.

Flowers are beautiful, they make everything better and we want you to have them. Unless, of course, they are Les Fleurs du Mal - the magnum opus of Charles Baudelaire penned in the mid 19th century. The title, translating to the Flowers of Evil (and what on Earth is a Family Dinner email without a literary rabbit hole?) is a collection of his poems showing an obsession with death, a fascination with evil and a distrust of societal norms. That's a very different set of fleurs to have your dinner party table - but personally, I'd still accept that invite.

Shares are looking pretty tight these days! Summer produce is finally hitting and we're getting pretty high on all things veggies.

Grilled Bok Choy - Charred veg for the win! Would serve alongside:

Grilled Tuna Steaks - So damn good. Will be topped with:

Garlic Scape Chimichurri - Make a ton and use for weeks. And throw in this starch on the side (one of my favorite grilled things):

Simple Grilled-Potato Salad With Grilled-Lemon Vinaigrette - These new potatoes generally cook a little faster. Pro tip: use a thermometer and pull them when internal temp is at 210º. Perfect every time.
