You're a firework!

Maybe July 4th has you thinking about the Declaration of Independence and its auspicious opening lines: "When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another...".

Maybe those words feel like an echo from the mouths of our forefolk reminding us to think for ourselves and act for each other and that in THIS neighborhood there are NO KINGS and folks can get the hell on out of here with that dictatorial garbage they're peddling. Maybe today has you ready to join a different revolution.

Me, I'm just a simple gal and the 4th of July has me thinking of Katy Perry's 2010 song, "Firework" which is a masterpiece of undeniable brilliance. In it, Perry addresses the unavoidable ennui that creeps into all of our lives. She reaches empathetically through the void asking:

"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag

Drifting through the windWanting to start again?"

And we're over here like "Yeah Katy. That sounds kind of familiar." (We all get kicked down from time to time.)

But Katy has your back with more toxic positivity than a Peleton class. She encourages us to dust ourselves off:

"Do you know that there's still a chance for you'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shineJust own the night like the 4th of July"

And suddenly your day just got a whole lot better with this little bop.

While you're "igniting the light" and "owning the night" you may get a little peckish. May we suggest digging through the freezer to find some ground beef and firing up a perfect patty melt (also a 4th of July centerpiece). Serve it up with some grilled sliced zucchini from this week's share. Those gems make a perfect base for any salad or fish dish or can just be schmeared with the creamy hummus from Magic Bites.

Whether the 4th of July has you thinking about melted cheese on a burger, the magical mystery of Katy Perry's brilliance or dismantling the patriarchy in a new revolution that will certainly be televised - enjoy the holiday. We hope it's delicious.

Recipes

The holiday has us thinking about porch food. Things that are lazily shareable with a few buds, the fam or your ever-present, ever- lazy old dog.

For appetizer bites I may go for mini cod cakes, drizzled with plenty of lemon and salt. If you want your cod to be more of a centerpiece, how about one pan cod with sliced tomato?

For something sweeter and simple, toasted anadama bread from A&J King with a spread of cream cheese (or ricotta!) honey and, again, more salt.

Also, settle into a veggie plate with sliced Everything You Have on Hand and a centerpiece of hummus from Magic Bites.
