A little love note.

By this time we have all seen the horrors that unfolded in Lewiston, Maine where a gunman shot and killed 18 people, injured 13 and remains on the loose. The people of this beautiful city remain on lockdown, fear mixing with tragedy and boiling froth of anger and sadness.

We won't take this moment to state the obvious. (To scream the obvious that it's the guns. It's always about the guns.)

Instead we want to take this moment to wrap our arms around the incredible people of Maine. The farmers, makers and growers, our amazing Maine based team and customers. The other companies we work alongside in Portland. Being a small part of the local food community in Maine is incredibly special and our hearts are broken.

Your Maine team will still be out tomorrow doing your deliveries. If you see them, give them a wave or a high five. We could all use a little more love.

Fish Sticks - Can we PLEASE just all be kids again and chill out and have some fish sticks? With this week's cod you can. Fry it up and make a quick tartar. Or just go with ketchup. Its your childhood.

Apple Arugula Salad- Pairs nicely with fish sticks and a few glasses of cold white.

Carrot Cake - This is a bit of a heavier lift but 100% worth it and rewarding.

Recipes (ME + NH)

Sausage and Tomato Risotto - Rib sticking and heart warming. Don't stir too hard and also, unless you're cooking for a native Italian or a professional cook, don't sweat it too hard. It's gonna be delicious. (Note: don't make this for native Italians or professional cooks unless you're certain you've got the chops or have thick skin.)

Creamy Fish Chowder - Despite the mid-70º weather we're having, these cooler nights have me hanerking for some chowder.

Harvest Vegetables and Sausage - Any sausage will do and, while I like the idea of a smoked sausage, I think the fennel seed in the Italian sausage most of you are getting would be pretty ace.

Sausage and Apple Stuffed Honeynut Squash - Honeynut squash are lil' butternuts. Just as sweet and tender and perfect for stuffing. Vegetarian it up thusly.
